Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah joined Pakistan Academy in 1975 and was commissioned in the Operations Branch in June 1978. He won the Sword of Honour for being the best all-round Midshipman. On his graduation he was awarded Chief of the Naval Staff Gold Medal for outstanding performance during all phases of training
He specialized as Principal Warfare Officer from UK and Navigation & Direction Officer from Pakistan. He is a graduate of Royal Naval Staff College, UK and National Defence College, Islamabad. He holds Master degree in Defence Studies from Kings College, UK and Masters Degree in War Studies from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad
He has an illustrious career with wide ranging experience of operational, training and command assignments. He has commanded Pakistan Navy Ship TIPPU SULTAN. Pakistan Naval Academy and the 25th Destroyer Squadron. His other distinguished appointments include Flag Lt to Chief of the Naval Staff, Instructor at Pakistan Naval Academy. Directing Staff at Pakistan Navy Staff College, Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Plans) and Defence Attache in Qatar
As Rear Admiral he remained Director General National Accountability Bureau (Rawalpindi), Chief Inspector (Navy), Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff (Training & Personnel) and Naval Secretary. He also commanded Multinational Maritime Task Force 150. As Vice Admiral he held the appointments of Commander Pakistan Fleet, Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff (Operations) and Vice Chief of the Naval Staff. He was promoted to the rank of Admiral and appointed as 20th Chief of the Naval Staff on 07 October 2014
He is a keen Yachtsman who represented Pakistan at numerous international events including 1984 Olympics (USA), 1986 Asian Games (South Korea) and 1990 Asian Games (China). He won two Gold Medals at the Asian Games in 1986 and 1990 and various other awards at International Sailing Championships
In recognition of his outstanding performance and meritorious services, he has been decorated with Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military), Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military), Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military), Presidentís Award for Pride of Performance. Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Presidentís Medal
He is married and blessed with two sons and two daughters
